Since 1976, this frontier event on the banks of the Tippecanoe River shows frontier life with historic encampments of French & Indian War, Voyageurs with canoes, Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Western Fur Trade, Plains Indians teepees, Woodland Indians wigwam village. 1832 Chippeway Village, fur trading post, blacksmith shop, plus 35 historic booths made of old barn boards. Pioneer foods are cooked over wood fires: buffalo burgers, ham & beans & cornbread, barbecue, chicken & noodles, fish & chips cooked in big iron kettles, apple dumplings, apple sausage, corn on the cob, Indian tacos and fry bread, also ice cream, one of George Washington`s favorite treats. Two stages with pre-1840 music & dance, canoe rides, hundreds of traditional crafts, cannon demo, post office, storytellers. Contests: muzzle-loading shooting, tomahawk throwing. Kids activities include mountain man tug of war and more. Indian dances 2 - 3 p.m. in dance arena. Honored Potawatomi family - each year a different family from our original inhabitants is honored, descendants of 1838 Trail of Death from Indiana to Kansas or who signed treaties in Indiana.
